    Title 1 Program

This is Zuni’s second year as a Title 1 school. Title 1 is a regular education program to help students who are significantly below grade level. This year the focus for Title 1 will be reading in first through fifth grade.

Students are identified for Title 1 services by their classroom teacher using reading assessment scores. A parent notification letter will be sent home, if your child’s teacher feels that a little extra help in reading would be beneficial. I am available to answer any questions or concern you might have.

Groups are called “flex” in Title 1. A student can enter when necessary and exit when they no longer need the program.

The reading curriculum used in the Title 1 program  will mirror what the students are doing in their classrooms, Balanced Literacy and Fundations, but with a smaller class size and more time for guided instruction.

Parent Corner

Parent involvement and input is vital to the Title 1 program. There is a parent corner with books and games you can borrow to take home and use with your child. There are also two parent computers set up in the room for parent use. Ms. Ek, our technology teacher, will outline guidelines for using these computers. I hope you will find the resources in the Parent Corner helpful.

Parent Input

I need parents to be involved in the planning of parent involvement activities as well as the planning of the Zuni After School Program, and the Title 1 Program. My goal is to work together as a team on these important programs so that the programs reflect what parents want and need at Zuni.
